Our Guided Tours

We provide tour guides who conduct a guided walking tours of the Parramatta Female Factory. Our tour guides have been trained and have a sound knowledge in the context, history, heritage of the Parramatta Female Factory from 1804 to 1848. The Parramatta Female Factory is the earliest surviving convict women’s site in Australia. Please see the flyer below on how to book a tour.

A Quick Guide to the Parramatta Female Factory.
The Tour Group gathers and start the tour with the context of History
Several stops along the way to learn about the lives and times of Female Convicts
The original buildings constructed in 1818 that remain include the range – Matron’s Quarters and Lying In Hospital and the prison walls with 3rd Class in 1826.
Punishment in 3rd Class and the Riots that took place
The 3rd Class Penitentiary (Crime Class) housed 200 or more – overcroweded and overworked with meagre rations.
With the first floor flooring long since removed, you do get a sense of what it was like inside 3rd class
A Vignette (are only on special dates such as Heritage Day and Riot Day) is moving as the female convict letters are read to a silent tour group.
After a tour on special events we have our very own Matron Gordon’s Tea Room for Tea and Scones, or if you prefer a coffee and slice.

Before and after a tour, there is the Havenstone Cafe onsite and the Parramatta Leagues Club has special offers for those on our booked tours.
